Rhodes University in South Africa students taking a tough stance against rape took things a step further on Tuesday afternoon and protested topless. Images of the protesters filled social media on Tuesday night, with many commending the protesters for the boldness of their gesture.

The protests come after a list of rape-accused students was posted on social media, leading the protesters to scour campus for the accused and pull them out of their residences.

The reactions on social media came from singer PJ Powers and former DA parliamentary leader Lindiwe Mazibuko.

Mazibuko said on Twitter: “Saddened by some responses to #N.akedProtest. People are talking about ‘indecency’ and such. Where are you when indecency of rape needs policing?”

“The N.aked Protest is revolutionary in the purest sense. Women telling men they don’t get to decide what we do and don’t do with our bodies.”

“These young women also expose sexist obsession with blaming women for violent actions of men. A woman’s body is hers alone,” she added.

PJ Powers a popular activist and a legendary musician tweeted her support: “I am so inspired by this generation of SA students. Courageous young women at #Rhodes taking back their bodies & their voices.”
